Lebanon


Introduction:

I am going to write about the most beautiful countries in the Middle East called in the bible ‘the land of milk and honey’ are that is Lebanon. Also the nickname of Beirut is ‘Paris of the East’. As you know Lebanon is surrounded by five countries Jordan, Turkey, Syria, Cyprus and Palestine.




Modern History:

Lebanon gained independence from France in 1943. In 1975 tensions reach their peak because members of a radical Christian group, the Phalange attacked and killed a bus full of Palestinians in downtown Beirut. The result of the tensions was the army of Syria entered Lebanon, Beirut was divided to two parts, Muslim groups retreated in to western half of the city. In 1982 the Israeli army invaded the city with the aim of removing the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO).The peace deal was reached in 1989. In addition the human and economic costs of the conflict were between 150,000 – 200,000 people died. Another 300,000 were wounded; nearly a quarter of the population left the country, for years Beirut’s economy was paralyzed.


Lebanon Now:

Lately the recovery of the country from the war has improved its social and economic life. The joy of lightening up the city Beirut has brought happiness in to the people’s lives by building up entertainment such as shopping malls, restaurants, and the most is the number of cars. Beirut is known as the main attraction. Tourists around the whole world come to visit the city became of the great night life. The country is suffering from the expenses of daily life such as electricity and phone payments, the number of cars which causes traffic problems, the worst is high pollution.
